Required Skills: Qualifications & Experience:
• University or college education in a relevant subject; a recognised technical qualification, an approved military service qualification; or proven industry experience in offshore surveying operations.
• Previous offshore survey experience.
• Offshore construction related surveying experience, including construction vessel positioning, ROV based pre-lay surveys, lay support, as-laid, as trenched, as-built and out-of-straightness surveys and underwater acoustic positioning or metrology (USBL and LBL).
• Previous experience in the role of Party Chief in the offshore survey industry or experience of leadership of smaller survey teams during offshore survey operations.
Duties: Responsibilities:
• Manage and support all disciplines within the survey team, i.e. surveyors, survey engineers, data processors, reports co-ordinators and geophysicists.
• Read, understand and implement Project procedures and Company Work Instructions.
• Gain an awareness of the relevant commercial and contractual issues of each project as defined in such documents as Scope of Work and tender documents.
• Plan vessel mobilisations in conjunction with the Survey Coordinator, the Offshore Superintendent and the Project Manager.
• Supervise and facilitate the installation, testing and operation of survey, navigation and peripheral devices which may include, but not limited to: GPS receivers; differential correction receivers, navigation computer systems for survey and acquisition (preferably EIVA software), PC peripherals including printers, logging devices, remote monitors, data links; echo-sounders systems (MBES, SBES), gyrocompasses (vessel and ROV-mounted); motion reference systems (vessel and ROV-mounted); cross profiler systems (DHSS or MBES, ROV-mounted), pipe tracker systems (ROV-mounted); acoustic positioning systems, e.g. LBL/USBL; Doppler Logs (ROV-mounted); and digital video systems.
• Supervise and facilitate the installation of vessel network systems.
• Supervise and facilitate the execution of land surveys using Total Station and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
• Supervise and facilitate the execution of DGPS health checks and gyro calibrations.
• Ensure the safe installation of survey systems and cabling such that they do not present a hazard to others and such that they remain secure when at sea.
• Supervise the observations of seawater parameters in order to determine the speed of sound in seawater, and apply resulting speed of sound values in USBL, LBL and bathymetric systems.
• Plan survey operations in conjunction with the Offshore Superintendent, taking account of vessel and ROV operational capabilities and limitations.
• Develop task plans for critical operations and implement such plans through tool-box talks involving Survey, ROV, marine and Client personnel.
• Quality control the results, analysis and interpretation of data obtained through various software packages and hardware systems from such devices as integrated navigational systems, GPS receivers, differential correction systems, multi-reference station systems, heading sensors, motion reference units and acoustic positioning systems.
• Ensure that clear and accurate online survey logs are maintained and records generated with clear and accurate annotation of data.
• Ensure the maintenance of intended positions and headings for seabed structures that are to be installed.
• Ensure that continuous recording of good quality survey data is maintained.
• Be familiar with offshore construction terminology and the different types of features and events that should b recorded and positioned when conducting surveys on pipelines or structures.
• Produce daily progress reports to Project Surveyors, Project Managers and in certain cases, Clients.
• Produce and / or quality control project field reports.
• Represent the Company at Client project meetings both offshore and onshore.
• Supervise and facilitate the performance of acoustic and metrology operations in conjunction with the Online Surveyor and Survey Engineer, ensuring that all systems are prepared and deployed correctly and that detailed records are maintained of transponder deployments and battery counts.
• Facilitate the investigation of faults and failures of survey systems.
• Facilitate the keeping of an accurate inventory of all survey equipment, spares and consumables, ensuring that consumables are maintained at suitable levels.
• Perform or facilitate the performance of Risk Assessments and tool box talks in the course of day-to-day activities.
• Display proficiency and general computer literacy with Microsoft products, e.g. Word and Excel, email and Windows operating systems.
• Ensure that all personnel under own supervision follow the QHSE guidelines and requirements as defined in project specific plan or as required by Vessel Operations Manual.
• Maintain high standards of integrity in dealing with Clients, other vessel departments and members of the survey team.
• Attend training courses as required as part of the ongoing development of individual and Company capability.
• Adhere to Saipme safety, health and environmental procedures and policies.
• Conduct safety meetings, project risk assessments and tool box talks.
• Recognise risks and develop mitigation to reduce risk to an acceptable level where possible.
• Develop and maintain a strong safety culture in the survey team.
• Operate within the vessel permit to work systems when required.
• Ensure that all personnel under own supervision follow the safety guidelines and requirements as defined in project specific plan or as required by the Vessel Operations Manual.
• Conduct all activities within the Integrated Management System Policy, Procedures and Work Instructions.
